Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev played one of the best shots of Wimbledon 2023 during his match with Alexander Bublik on Sunday.

Rublev’s shot left everyone — including his opponent Bublik — surprised and there was nothing but a round of applause for the next 20-30 seconds on the Centre Court.

Bublik, too, was surprised by the Russian’s diving shot and ended up applauding from the other end of the court.

However, Rublev stated that he will not be able to repeat that shot as the tennis star considered the shot as nothing but luck.

"It was the most lucky shot ever," said Rublev. "It was luck, nothing else. I don't think I can do it one more time."

Here is how Twitter reacted to Rublev’s once-in-a-lifetime shot

The 25-year-old took a thrilling 7-5 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 win on Centre Court progressing to the mega event’s quarter-finals where he will face Novak Djokovic should the Serb beat Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in tonight’s game.

This victory means 25-year-old Rublev has now reached the quarter-finals of every Grand Slam, but he has never managed to go any further as he lost in the last eight of both the Australian and French Opens twice, with three defeats at that stage of the US Open.

Earlier on Saturday (July 8), Carlos Alcaraz defeated Nicolas Jerry 6-3, 7-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a spectacular game and progressed to the Round of 16 stage of the tournament where he will face the Italian Matteo Berrettini.

The Spaniard also expressed his desire to meet Djokovic in the tournament’s final saying facing Novak in the Wimbledon final would be even better than reaching the final itself.

Alcaraz and Djokovic will face each other in the mega event’s final should they win their remaining matches in the tournament.

The two powerhouses last faced one another in the semi-final of the French Open 2023 where the Spaniard was handed a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 defeat by the Serb.

While this is Alcaraz’s third appearance at Wimbledon, with reaching the second and fourth rounds in 2021 and 2022 respectively, Djokovic is already a seven-time Wimbledon champion and is yet to lose a single game at the tournament since 2017.
